Lionesses
one-nill wonders in round four of WPL
Monday 14
April
2008
The "Battle Of The Lions" featuring the Eastern & Preston
prides at Gardiners Reserve on Saturday was settled by one
second half goal in the Round 4 fixture of the WPL.
The Preston
girls keeping up their perfect record in the best start to
a season in the clubs history in the VWPL with their third
one-nil win in three weeks.
Preston,
wearing an unfamiliar yellow away strip piled plenty of
pressure on the home sides well structured midfield,
defence and goal but nothing would drop in. The Northern
Suburbs team still strong and well organised at the back
again not conceding and new signing Julia Baldwin adding
even more class to the midfield.
Some
brilliant close-in work from Petra Van Egmond and Ashleigh
Kelly late in the second half saw a delightful through
ball and Sarah Lovett able to beat a red hot Eastern
Lions’ offside trap to notch her second in four. Preston
stays with Box Hill & Sandringham at the top of the WPL
table.
In the
Reserve game Preston Lions showed off more depth and some
of its younger players and were able to account for
Eastern Lions 5-2 including a well earned hatrick from
Nikki Garner in a thrilling end to end display. They also
sit at the top of the ladder with three wins from their
last three games.
