Shearing finished in sixth spot at WPL Gold Medal Night
Friday
11 September 2009
(Pece Siljanovski) - The club would like to congratulate
Lioness Kirstie Shearing for finishing in sixth spot in
the WPL Gold Medal last Tuesday.
Shearing finished on thirteen votes for season 2009, just
six votes behind the winner Melanie Camilleri from
Heidelberg United.
Recruited from Gippsland at the start of the season,
Shearing instantly made an impact in the Lionesses
midfield this season, and we hope that she continues on
that form into next season as the Lionesses will look to
rebuild after a disappointing season.
The Lionesses finished seventh on the ladder with just two
wins this season, both against GRFA. Although the club had
high expectations before the season started, after its
best ever WPL campaign in 2008 and recruiting a number of
players, the Lionesses struggled throughout the season.
Mid way through the season Robert Spasevski replaced Andy
Fry as coach of the Lionesses.
The club will now look to rebuild in the next few months
heading into pre-season, with an emphasis on establishing
more junior girls teams at the club. |
