(Pece Siljanovski) - The Preston Lions
Womens Football Club are well under way in their
preparations for the upcoming Season 2009 Victorian Womens
Premier League.
The
squad has been working since November last year and are
well into a pre-season program that they hope will propel
them into 2009 as it did last season.
The players fought hard for a third spot in the league and
were kept out of a Grand Final place with a dramatic
penalty shoot-out. The club and it’s committee along with
coaching staff have worked tirelessly and are fine tuning
squads now with a series of fitness sessions and practice
matches leading up to the gala round one at Darebin in
April.
The 2009 squad will miss the likes of "FFV Goalkeeper of
the Year" Nabby Saliba and star midfielder Paula Massouh
but have improved on last years list and look to have more
talent and character than ever before.
"Player movement is inevitable and we have carefully
selected players that can adapt to Preston's 'never say
die' approach" said Senior Coach and 2008 FFV Coach of the
Year Andy Fry. "To improve even more on what we have
achieved and maintain our direction we need a quality list
and a certain type of dedication from footballers and
that’s all I have seen so far with the group we have".
More details are to be released regarding squad lists and
shirt presentation night in the coming weeks.
