Naumovski
Player of the Year for the
Lionesses
in 2008
Sunday 12 October
2008
(Victor Sekulov) - The Preston
Lionesses finished off their 2008 season with their
Presentation night held at the Preston Makedonia Social
club. In front of families, friends and supporters the
final act to close off, what ended up being Preston’s best
ever season in the Womens
Victorian Premier League, was to announce the awards for
2008.
First award for the night went to the top scorers in the
Seniors and Reserves. Sarah Lovett won top goal scorer of
the year with a fantastic effort and Nikki Garner won top
goal scorer for the Reserves. Both players put in an
outstanding performance this year and played a significant
part in the success of Preston this season.
The Most Improved Player of the Year was won by Larissa
Werbiuk. This was Larissa’s first season with Preston and
her first at the highest level of women’s football in
Victoria. Larissa started nervously in the season but by
year end she was playing very well, even managing to score
a fantastic goal to earn her team valuable points. Well
done Larissa.
This season, for the first time, Preston introduced the
Coach’s award. This award was for a player who had played
a significant part in the success of Preston, who had
shown character and commitment to the team. For the
Reserves the winner was Niki Velkoska. The Senior award
was shared by the two Sarahs – Sarah Lovett and Sarah
Sumner.
As the night progressed the Player of the Year award and
the prestigious Player’s Player of the Year award were
announced.
The 2008 Reserves Player of the Year was won by: Sheree
Harris. Sheree had a fantastic season in 2008. She played
as a forward and midfielder and even had a stint as a
sweeper, not to mention having played some games for the
seniors. Throughout the season Sheree had played at the
maximum always giving her 100 % to the club and her
teammates.
Congratulations Sheree.

The 2008 Senior Player of the Year had two runners up this
season. Kate Christoff and Diana Piculovski were worthy
runners up as both had great seasons this year as Preston
pushed towards finals football.
The 2008 Senior Player of the Year was won by Casey
Naumovski. Casey was one of the main workhorses of the
Preston team in 2008. Her determination and never say die
approach plus her support for her teammates was evident by
her performance on the field and thus resulting in her
winning the award. One of Preston’s ‘original’ girls it
was a fitting way to end the season for Casey, who was
moved from her customary midfield role to one which was
more defensive.
The last award, but certainly not the least, for the night
was the Player’s Player of the year Award. This award is
voted on by all the Preston players themselves.
The 2008 Preston Lions Player’s Player of the Year was won
by Nabila Saliba. Nabby won this award last year and it is
the first time the award has been won by the same player
two seasons running. Nabby won the FFV’s Victorian
Goalkeeper of the Year award and it is a testament to the
quality and personality of Nabby Saliba.
The night concluded when Paula Massouh and Diana
Piculovski presented gifts to Coaches Andy Fry and Victor
Sekulov on behalf of the players. It was a wonderful gift
– photos of all the players that had worn the Red and
Yellow of Preston throughout the season presented in a
photo album. Both Andy and Victor were sincerely touched
by this great gift.
See you all in 2009.
