The Preston Lions Football Club is proud to announce that
three players from our Premier League
womens squad
have been
selected to trail for the new Melbourne Victory Womens
Team.
Lionesses
Kate Christoff, Sarah Lovett, Ashleigh Kelly are currently
in a training camp which could possibly lead to selection
to the Westfield W-League team.
Football
Federation Australia announced in July the establishment
of a new national women’s league known as the Westfield
W-League. The new league will feature an eight-team
competition with teams from all seven Australian A-League
clubs, plus an ACT-based side to be known as Canberra
United.
The W-League
season will commence late October of this year and will
run until mid January when the finals take place.
Everybody at
the club, from the coaching staff, to the players and
womens committee should be congratulated and proud of
their season to date in the Womens Premier League (WPL).
The Lionesses are currently fourth on the ladder with only
two matches remaining, finals football seems to be within
reach, and it will be the first time Preston Lions Womens
FC have participated in WPL finals.
The club is
proud to be at the forefront of football development on
all fronts, from Mens, Womens to Juniors. Players from our
club have progressed to bigger and better things,
including playing overseas, in the A-League and now with
the possibility of players chosen for the W-League and the
new National Youth League.
Congratulations to all players and we
wish them the best of luck as we all will be watching
their progress.
