  VICTORIAN PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH REPORT

Di Iorio hat trick secures all points for Thunder against Preston
Sunday 03 May 2009
(Pece Siljanovski) - Dandenong Thunder continues its impressive unbeaten run in the 2009 Victorian Premier League season as they disposed of the Preston Lions 4-0 in the Round 9 clash at George Andrews Reserve.

Preston although severely undermanned with Blaze Georgioski who is injured, keeper Damir Salcin and Michael Miskas both out due to suspensions, the Lions for the first half hour managed to match the much more fancied opponents as neither side had any clear chance on goal.

In the 32nd minute Joseph Di Iorio ran onto a perfect ball received from the middle as Preston stand in keeper Aleksandar Stojanovski left his line and did not manage to stop Di Iorio who slotted the ball in an open goal to give the Thunder the lead.

On the stroke of half time Thunder's Veton Korcarevski sunk the hearts of the Lions faithful as he slotted the ball in the open goal to extend the lead 2-0.

Dandenong continued to press their authority on the match as in the 57th minute Di Iorio scored his second who took advantage of Stojanovski's inexperience as he turned the keeper wide of the box and easily slotted in the third goal of the game.

Lions Jason Dolevski, brother of Preston's forward Robert Dolevski made his first senior debut for the club and could have scored a goal just five minutes later with his first touch, however his header was denied by the cross bar.

Thunder topped off their performance in the 65th minute as Di Iorio completed his hat trick and gave Dandenong the three points.

Next week the Preston Lions meet its rivals Heidelberg United in Round 10 of the Victorian Premier League on Sunday 10  May 2009 3pm at BT Connor Reserve, while the Thunder will travel to Mansion Stadium as they meet the Melbourne Knights on Saturday 10 May 2009 at 3pm.
