Eagles too good for Lions
Tuesday 31 March 2009
(
Mark Boric, Goal Weekly) - Richmond proved a class above Preston Lions last night (Friday 27th), recording an emphatic 5-1 victory.

The contest was over at half time, with the home side leading 4-0 at Kevin Bartlett Reserve.

It was a cross from Karahran that led to the opening goal after 14 minutes.

The ball was headed away as Richie Cardozo challenged for it at the far post, but fell to Kalambokis on the edge of the area who carried it across the top of the box.

He unleashed a shot on goal to notch his first score for the season.

Just two minutes later Richmond doubled the lead.

Lorenz Kindtner won the ball in his own half, passing to Kalambokis who found Cardozo driving up the middle.

Catalano had made a run on the outside to the left, and Cardozo slipped the ball to him, a neat finish seeing the former Essendon Royals midfielder also get on the score sheet for the first time in 2009.

It wasn’t long before the Eagles had their third on the board against the hapless Lions.

Robinson took the ball forward until spotting the unmarked Cardozo on his left.

Another good finish from just outside the penalty area followed, the Eagles flying high at 3-0 up inside the half hour mark.

Preston tried to rally through captain Bosevski, one of his low driving shots from a free kick requiring a solid save.

But the next score would again come from the Eagles, with Cardozo putting his second on the board courtesy of a penalty to make it 4-0 at the half.

The Lions were able to limit the offensive effectiveness of Richmond in the second half, but would still concede one more goal.

Kalambokis also made it a double when he scored in the 75th minute, with Cardozo again involved in the build up.

Preston managed to peg one goal back on 90 minutes thanks to a finely crafted effort from Georgioski.

He found the ball in the middle of the park and switched it out to Ozsuz on the left wing.

Georgioski then arrived at the top of the box to meet the cross and slam it past Zois.
