On Sunday 1st June 2008, the 2008
"Compass Northern Community Cup" proudly
sponsored by Compass Recruitment will be played between Foxtel Cup
participants, the Whittlesea Zebras and Preston Lions. The
main game will kick off at 3.00pm.The Mayor of Whittlesea Cr Elizabeth Nealy and the Mayor
of Darebin Cr
Peter Stephenson were on hand at the Press Conference held
at FFV
Headquarters, to promote the friendly rivalry.
The Compass Recruitment Cup is an important message to the
football and
general community based in the Northern Suburbs that
football is alive in
the Northern metropolitan zone of Melbourne, and that the
code has an
important place within the community.
As a community event, the day will also be used to promote
awareness toward
the Whittlesea Zebras nominated charity "Convoy for Kids
Inc", which is
urgently raising much needed funds for a member of our
community, Anthony
Gray, who is now quadriplegic after a serious accident.
Ribbons will be
made available to all supporters as a symbol of support
towards Anthony and
players of both sides will wear blue armbands to mark the
occasion.
The winning team will be presented with the 2008 "Compass
Northern
Community Cup" and thus having bragging rites as the best
footballing side in the north of Melbourne.
