Lions
to appoint new senior coach
Friday 21 May
2010
The Preston Lions Football Club can confirm that it has
parted ways with senior coach Zeljko Gagula following its
sixth straight loss of the season.
Gagula, who took charge of the Lions mid way through the
2009 season, has guided the club admirably under
incredibly trying circumstances. However the team’s poor
start to the season which sees it currently sit at the
foot of the table has meant that changes needed to be made
as the club looks to reignite its season and move out of
the relegation zone.
“We would like to thank Zeljko for his commitment and
dedication to the club as senior coach over the past 12
months during what has arguably been one of the most
difficult periods in the club’s history following
relegation from the Victorian Premier League last year,”
said club representative Pece Siljanovski.
“His level of professionalism and hard work ethic has been
a credit to him, especially having to work within an
incredibly tight budget given the club’s financial
position. He has been a fantastic servant of the club,
Zeljko will always be welcome at BT Connor Reserve and we
wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Current reserves coach and former Lions championship
player, Nick Cuculeski, has been appointed caretaker coach
for this weekend’s home clash against top of the table
Whittlesea Zebras on Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm, whilst
the club interviews prospective candidates for the
permanent senior coaching role for the remainder of the
season. An appointment is expected to be made before the
Lions’ following home and away game. |
