Lions
and Zebras to battle for 2009 Northern Community Cup
Wednesday 14 May 2009
The Preston
Lions Football Club will meet the Whittlesea Zebras in
Round 11 of the Victorian Premier League at Epping Stadium
on Sunday 17th May 2009 with kick off for the seniors at
3.00pm.
The Victorian Premier League clash will bring together the
two biggest club sides in the Northern Suburbs and the
teams will play for the third annual “Northern Community
Cup" Trophy. Subsequently, the best player on the day will
be awarded the 2009 Andrew Zinni Medal.
The ex-Socceroo represented both Brunswick Juventus and
Preston Makedonia, as they were then known, between 1984
and 1995 at National League level.
Zinni was an important part of Brunsick Juventus as a
youngster and won the Australian national league
championship in 1985 with the famous black and whites,
before joining Preston in 1989 and continuing his stellar
career.
The Zebras were successful in last years clash defeating
Preston 4-0. The Lions, having never won the trophy, will
be desperate to reverse this result, after sharing the
trophy with Whittlesea in a 1-1 draw in 2007.
The fixture will also have its usual community theme and
local dignitaries will also be in attendance.
NOTE: Kick off changed to
5.30pm for seniors and 7.30pm for under 21's |
