Markovski
relinquishes his position as coach

The club wishes to announce that
Preston Lions FC legend John Markovski has elected to
relinquish his role as senior coach of the Preston Lions
Football Club.
Whilst the
news was meet with deep regret, the club unfortunately had
no choice but to accept Markovski's decision due to
personal reasons.
Markovski
was appointed senior coach in June 2008 who represented the club
as a player a total of 48 times in
the National Soccer League, scoring a total of 16 goals,
while also representing the Socceroos on 20 occasions for
1 goal, represented Australia at the World Youth Cup in
1987, and at under 20 and 23 level at the Barcelona
Olympics in 1992.
Markovski
made his name as a coach in 2002 when he led the Lions
from the middle of the table to a finals berth and
eventually being crowded Champions of Victoria in front of
nearly 7,000 people. In June 2008 Markovski was again
called up as coach and had to work hard to salvage
Preston's horrible season to date. He led the Lions to
another finals berth before they were cruelly knocked out
in the first week by Altona Magic in last minute goals in
each half.
The club
wishes Markovski all the best in his future endeavours and
that he will always be welcome back at the club that he
has served admirably both as player and coach.
The committee
will now assess potential candidates to lead our proud
club in its 50th anniversary in the 2009 Victorian Premier
League. |
