2009
(Pece Siljanovski) -
Football
Federation of Macedonia has announced that one of Preston
Lions favourite sons and former defender Saso Ognenovski
will represent the Macedonian national team.
The twenty
nine year old defender who is currently with A-League side
Adelaide United played at the juniors of Preston Lions
Football Club for five years before joining the seniors in
1997.
Ognenovski
would then go on to play for the Lions a total of 110
matches before progressing to the A-League where he joined
Queensland Roar. After two impressive seasons with the club
he made the lucrative move to fellow A-League club
Adelaide United, where he had the opportunity to play in
the Asian Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup.
Ognenovski's
impressive form in the Asian Champions League did not go
un-noticed as K-League side Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma from
South Korea have singed the tall defender who was voted
the second best Macedonian footballer of 2008 by the
Macedonian media behind Lazio star Goran Pandev.
Although
Macedonia Coach Srečko Katanec is still to announce the
squad that will play against Moldova in Antalya (Turkey)
on 11th of February, it is expected that Ognenovski will
be named in the squad.
The Preston
Lions Football Club would like to congratulate Ognenovski
and wish him the best of luck in his club and
international career. The whole community will be behind
Ognenovski when he defends the red shirt of Macedonia.
