Markovski
commits to Lions for two years
Sunday 12 October
2008
Preston Lions Football
Club
is pleased to announce the re-appointment of
club legend John Markovski
as the senior coach
for the next two years of the
Foxtel Cup (VPL).
The club was pleased with Markovski's
performance since signing with the club mid way through
season 2008, and as a result the club was eager for
Markovski to sign on for a long term contract to promote
stability within the coaching ranks at the Lions Den. The
club believes this decision will provide Markovski the
best opportunity to develop a squad that will be a force
to reckon with next year and beyond.
For the second time in his coaching
career Markovski salvaged the clubs season, once in 2002
when the Lions went on to win the Championship, and again
this season when Markovski guided the club from
relegation candidates to finishing in the top six and
participated in the finals series. In both years Markovski
was signed as coach in the middle of the season.
The former Socceroo and Preston
Makedonia player in the old National Soccer League (NSL),
Markovski will use his international and domestic
experience to nurture and develop talented youth players
from the clubs Under 21's development squad so players are
ready to take the next step to represent the club at
senior level.
Markovski and the club
will now be working hard during the off
season to strengthen the squad ahead of the clubs 50th
year anniversary in 2009. |
