JUNIORS:
U15 Melbourne Knights v Preston Lions JFC
Sunday 17
August
2008
(Bill Korunovski) -
This catch up
game was played at the Melbourne Knights stadium in almost
perfect playing conditions. The game was played in high
spirits and both teams were hungry for another win.
Melbourne
Knights came out strong and with the aid of the wind
pushed Preston to the limit with Lions keeper Andrew Karafillis
having make a few vital saves. The defensive line
consisting of T Meletis, A Rostankovski, J Petrovski, D
Kupresak and D Mendes worked overtime in the first half to
keep the score line at nil all.
The
midfielders Tony Themis, J Stojcevski , D Pendovski and J
Mavrov began pushing the ball around and causing all sorts
of headaches for the Knights. Things looked to be at a
stalemate and Coach Lade was forced to make a few changes
to utilize the small wind advantage Preston had in the
second half.
A second
striker, B Cundari was added to the mix to try to add some
more pace to the forward line structure, and S Gusevski
plus C Kitanoski were added to the midfield. The time was
running out, with a few minutes to go when finally
Prestons M. Korunovski broke through and slotted the ball
past the Knights keeper. There were protests from the
Knights calling for off side but the referee was right
there on the spot and dismissed the protest.
Coach Lade
from Preston is very happy with the teams performance and
is happy to see the team finally coming into some good
form when it counts. The team was riddled with injuries
throughout the season and Preston have still managed to
secure a position in the top half of the table. The hard
work throughout the season is paying off and we are
looking forward to our last round clash with eighth placed
team Altona Magic.
