JUNIORS: U15 Green Gully v Preston Lions JFC
Thursday 12 June 2008
This was a battle of first place Green Gully and second place Preston Lions. Preston won the coin toss and elected to go with the wind and from the word go put Gully under constant pressure.

After a number of fouls the referee finally decided that Gully had been given enough leeway and started booking their players for careless and what at times looked like deliberate fouls. Preston outplayed Gully and were in command of the first half. The instructions the boys were given was to use the wind and get a few long balls over to the sticker and also to take shots at the short Gully Goal keeper.

The boys hard efforts finally paid off when a through ball to Michael Korunovski was capitalized on. The shot came from outside the 16 yard box and found the net despite a dive from the Gully keeper Carlos. The bench erupted and so did the crowd, this is only the 3rd goal that Gully has conceded so far this year and their coach was not happy and it showed. The second half the home side had the wind and started using rough tactics again. Andrew the keeper for Preston was called upon to make many saves and had the better of the offence for most of the day.

Three key defenders were injured during the course of the match. Alex Rostankovski received a blow to the face and came off with a blood nose, the sweeper Chris Kitanoski got kicked from behind and was unable to continue and Jason Petrovski was still recovering from a first half tackle. With some of Preston's key defenders on the bench Gully was able equalize and in last minute of the game broke through the defence and scored the winning goal. Despite the disappointing loss the Preston players received a huge round of applause from all the parents believing it to have been the team's best game so far this season.

Despite the injuries Preston had before and during the game the boys can hold their heads up high knowing that they matched and for most of the day outplayed the team at the top of the ladder. The boys all put in 100% and coaches and parents alike are very proud of their efforts.

Well done guys!

The U15's have a bye this weekend which should allow the boys to get over some of the injuries and come out strong against the Manchester Cup Victorian representatives Altona Magic. This game will be played on the 22nd at Paisley Reserve Altona. Come down and support the team, ALL are welcome.
