The Preston Lions Football Club has been a pillar of the
Australian-Macedonian community for the past 50 years.
From its foundations as the Preston Makedonia Soccer Club,
the club continues to provide a major sector of the wider
community with a place to gather, socialise and be
entertained by the world game.
Many champion players have donned the famous Preston
jersey over the years including George McMillan and Zarko
Odzakov, as well as many others who have gone on to
represent Australia at both youth and senior levels such
as Phil Traianedes, Robbie Dunn, Gary Cole, Peter Ollerton,
John Markovski, Warren Spink, Andrew Zinni, George
Jolevski, Kris Trajanovski and Goran Lozanovski.
With success at both National and State League level,
including four-time State Champions of Victoria, the
Preston Lions Football Club now needs your support to
progress into the next phase of its remarkable history.
The club’s current financial plight has been well
publicised and whilst a number of fund raising initiatives
were implemented during season 2007 to help the club
through this difficult period, there is still a long way
to go if we are to make a serious dent in the club’s
existing debts. The most significant of these is to the
Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
 Unfortunately most clubs in today’s Victorian Premier
League competition are struggling financially and owe many
thousands of dollars which have accumulated over the
years. Our club is no exception. It is for this reason
that we are calling on the thousands of loyal Preston
Lions supporters and members of the Macedonian community
to contribute to reducing this debt by making a voluntary
donation to the club as part of its fund raising campaign.
All donations will go exclusively towards reducing the
club’s debt to the ATO.
The club’s survival depends on the success of this
campaign which will now be tested by us all. If we fail,
then we fail every person who in the past 50 years has
sweated and worked hard to establish and build this icon
we call the Preston Lions Football Club.
