Herald
Sun article clarification
PLFC MEDIA
RELEASE
Thursday 14 September 2006
The Preston
Lions Football Club would like to clarify its position in
relation to an article titled ‘Hooligan hell rocks
soccer’ which was published in the Sunday Herald Sun
newspaper on the 10th of September 2006.
The article
in question, written by Carly Crawford, has unfairly
portrayed the club as being supported by an imaginary gang
of hardcore soccer hooligans and states that up to 200
supporters brawled after the club lost to Oakleigh last
month.
The club
denounces the assumptions made by the author of the
article and would like to clarify these statements as
being false and totally untrue as the Preston Lions did
not participate in any game against Oakleigh during this
time.
The club
would also like to clarify that statements from Preston
Lions’ President, Chris Todorovski, as they appear in the
article have either been misquoted and/or severely taken
out of context.
The
ill-conceived article was nothing short of defamatory and
slanderous towards the club, and the club has sought legal
advice to examine every possible measure in countering
this unwarranted negative publicity.
Carly
Crawford has since contacted the club to apologise for her
misleading article. In response, the club will request a
public and written apology to be published.
