Preston Lions
Football Club is proud to announce and congratulate former
Preston junior
Robert
Stambolziev
for singing his first professional contract with English
Championship club Bristol City.
Stambolziev
who graced the junior fields of BT Connor Reserve
(Preston's home ground) from 1998 to 2005 has been in
England since he was 16 representing the Reserves and
Academy sides of Bristol City before receiving his first
professional contract.
Last August Stambolziev
was invited to join an 18-man squad in Canberra,
Australia for Australia's Under-20s squad for a special
training camp.
"Australian
Rob arrived at City at the age of 16, having been
recommended by a coach who brought a team over from Down
Under to face an Academy XI. A pacey left-winger/striker,
the youngster has a keen eye for goal with eight this term
for the youth side" stated by Bristol City Manager Gary
Johnson.
Johnson added
that to bring Stambolziev
from the Academy "at this high standard is impressive, and
they were the best of a good bunch."
Preston Lions
Secretary Pece Siljanovski stated that "the club is
proud that Stambolziev who has
represented Preston Lions in the junior ranks has now
established himself at the elite level. The club is
currently working very hard at restructuring the current
junior setup so that it can continue to produce players
for the future. Everyone at
the Preston Lions family is thrilled with Stambolziev's
success and we wish the former Lion the best of luck in
his future endeavours."
Stambolziev
continues the line of players that have gone from
the Preston Lions Juniors structure to national and
international representation. Other players include Saso
Ognenovski who is with
K-League side
Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma from South Korea and has been selected to
represent Macedonia,

Socceroos, and Mathew
Theodore
who was
