- Preston Lions Football Club is proud to announce and
congratulate former Preston junior Mathew Theodore
for his selection in the
Young
Socceroos camp.
The former
Lions junior was selected by Young Socceroos Head Coach
Jan Versleijen to be a part of a 25-player squad for a
training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in
Canberra from Monday 23 to Friday 27 March as part of his
team’s preparation for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Mathew Theodore was part of a Preston Lions Under 15's
squad that won the FFV Junior Under 15's Super League
title before transferring to the Victorian Institute of
Sport.
Theodore would then go on to the Australian Institute of
Sport before being selected in Melbourne Victory's
National Youth League team in the 2008-09 season, with the
honour of being selected as captain of the squad.
Theodore continues the line of players that have gone from
the Preston Lions Juniors structure to national and
international representation. Other players include Saso
Ognenovski who is with
K-League side
Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma from South Korea and is selected to
represent Macedonia,
Blagoja (Billy) Celeski who is with
A-League side Melbourne Victory and has represented the
Socceroos, and
Robert
Stambolziev who is in England representing the Reserves
and Academy sides of Bristol City Football Club.
Everyone at
the Preston Lions family is thrilled with
Theodore's
success and we wish the former Lion the best of luck in
his future endeavours.
